Vision To Lead. Our new vision is to become the primary provider of African-American arts in the midwest presenting new or lesser-known art forms.

Mission To Serve. The Madame Walker Theatre Center operates with a mission to preserve and perpetuate the legacies of its namesake, Madam C.J. Walker. These legacies include arts & culture, entrepreneurship, economic development and philanthropy. The Center is dedicated to nurturing and celebrating the arts from an African-American perspective and provides a forum for arts and cultural programming directed toward cross-cultural appreciation.

Fact. Although the name Madame on the building’s nameplate is spelled with an “e” Madam Walker wrote her name without the letter “e”. You will see two different spellings throughout the Web site: one referring to the historic Walker Building and one referring to Madam Walker.
