7/11/2009 - IBE Film Fest
Don't miss the IBE Film Fest during Indiana Black Expo's 39th Annual Summer Celebration on Saturday, July 11 from 4 to 9 p.m. in the historic Madame Walker Theatre. The free event will feature two outstanding films The first film "Pray the Devil Back to Hell" is the extraordinary story of a small band of Liberian women who -- armed only with white T-shirts and the courage of their convictions - came together in the midst of a bloody civil war, took on the warlords, and brought peace to their shattered country. The second film "War Child," chronicles the shocking and inspiring journey of Emmanuel Jal who was forced to become a ruthless soldier at the age of 7. The event is sponsored by Heartland Truly Moving Pictures, Christel DeHaan Family Foundation and Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation. Come enjoy West Coast Swing with a sprinkling of ECS, Hustle, Cha Cha, Nite Club 2-Step, Shag, Latin and other dances in the rhythm family from 3 - 6 p.m. in the Grand Casino Ballroom on the fourth floor of the Walker Building. Open to all ages and levels of dancers, no partner required. Tickets are $10 for members, $15 for nonmembers and $5 for students with a valid school ID. Dance lessons from 2 - 3 p.m.

What Walker staffers are calling uncut, uncensored, off-the-hook comedy in this hilarious series Tuesday, July 28 at 8 p.m. in the historic Madame Walker Theatre. Each month features a national comedian. Doors open at 7 p.m. with an 8 p.m. showtime. Admission is $15 in advance and available at the Walker Box Office or online at ticketmaster.com. A cash bar will be available.

Jazz on the Avenue is a refreshing Friday after-hours gathering for the entire family from 6 - 10 p.m. in the Grand Casino Ballroom on the fourth floor of the Walker Building. The evening’s atmosphere this month will be filled with the jazzy sounds of Vickie Daniel with Paradigm and lots of southern style food. Admission is $10 and an additional $10 for the buffet.
