Dear Friends,

We are celebrating at The Historic Madame Walker Theatre Center!!!

On December 23, 1867, Sarah Breedlove was born in Delta, Mississippi as the daughter of slaves. Orphaned at seven, married at seventeen, and widowed by twenty, she was not expected to make significant contributions to the hair care industry, nor to become the first self-proclaimed African-American female millionaire in the United States. Adopting the name Madam C.J. Walker, she moved her business to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1910 and made history as an entrepreneur, and philanthropist, and an arts enthusiast.

Now, 100 years later, we are living the legacy and celebrating the arts at The Historic Madame Walker Theatre Center . Please help us celebrate Madame Walker’s birthday AND her 100th Anniversary of settling in Indianapolis by contributing to the legacy of The Historic Madame Walker theatre Center. Each gift, regardless of size, provides much needed support for our programs and operating expenses.

Will you give today? Enclosed is a document outlining the ways in which you can celebrate with us through your tax-deductible giving. This year, on the 100th anniversary of Madame Walker’s arrival in Indianapolis, what better tribute could we have than Living the Legacy and Celebrating the Arts on Indiana Avenue with a contribution to The Historic Madame Walker Theatre Center?

It is our sincere prayer that we can do a portion of what Madame Walker accomplished by continuing her legacy and to celebrating the arts in a meaningful way. On behalf of The Madame Walker Theatre Center board of directors and staff, we want to thank you for your continued support of our organization and programs. Your financial contributions enable us to broaden our programs, preserve our historic building, and enrich our community.

We appreciate your continued love, your prayers, your time, and your support.

Blessings & Peace,

Terry
