0Message from the President..
We are so appreciative of the comments and energy that is being generated on behalf of Madame C.J. Walker and her legacy.
As the President & CEO of The Madame Walker Theatre Center, I can assure you that our mission intentionally goes beyond hair care & production. With the help of a strong Board of Directors, we have built upon the entrepreneurial and philanthropic legacy of Madame Walker by celebrating a wide array of cultural, educational, and performing arts in our beautiful historic building.
Just this month alone, The Walker will welcome living legend Freda Payne (September 16); Indy’s own opera diva Angela Brown (September 22); and gospel great Deitrick Haddon (September 30). Other upcoming events that are sure to satisfy Central Indiana are: Feel the Dream Tour – Michael Jackson Tribute (October 22); Dance Theatre of Harlem (November 10); and actor, filmmaker, comedian John Waters (November 12). Check out our Website for many more events and activities (www.walkertheatre.com) or follow us on Twitter (@walkertheatre).
We thank you again for your interest in Madame C.J. Walker and The Madame Walker Theatre Center!

Thank you very much to Dr. Terry Whitt Bailey for sharing information about the Walker Theatre's exciting Fall 2011 season.
As Madame Walker's only great-great-granddaughter, I am proud to be associated with the Walker Theatre as a board member and as someone who grew up visiting my mother’s office in this historic building. My father, S. Henry Bundles, founding CEO of the Center for Leadership Development, and my brother, Lance Bundles, also have been board members. My late mother, A’Lelia Perry Bundles, was a long time executive of the Mme. C. J. Walker Manufacturing Company.
Through the years my family has spearheaded and supported a number of initiatives including the 1998 Madame Walker postage stamp; numerous Walker documentaries and museum exhibitions; and the recent renaming of the Harlem street where Madame Walker and A’Lelia Walker, my great-grandmother and namesake, owned a home.
As Madame Walker's biographer, I have written two books, including On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C. J. Walker, a New York Times Notable Book, and a young adult book. I also have spoken about Madam Walker’s life and entrepreneurial activities throughout the US, Europe and the Middle East.
As president of the Madam Walker Family Archives--the world's largest privately owned collection of Walker photographs, personal letters, business records, clothing and memorabilia--I share information with students, scholars and others. My personal focus is on the inspirational lives of Madam Walker (1867-1919) and A’Lelia Walker (1885-1931); on the families who were involved in the Walker Company prior to its sale (including the Ransoms, Brokenburrs, Overstreets and Reynolds); and on the programs of the Walker Theatre.
As the Madame Walker Building approaches its 85th year, we look forward to welcoming yet another generation of Indianapolis residents to share the inspiration and pride their parents and grandparents have told us they felt as young people attending dances, movies and other events.
